Dr. Morita’s Hyaluronic Acid Essence Mask.

Today we will review Dr. Morita’s Hyaluronic Acid Essence Mask.

Face mask sheets has been around for many of years in South East Asia, and lately we have seen beauty brands in UK starting to launch their own. I remember I could only buy them each time I went holidays to Japan, S.Korea and Hong Kong, as non were available online at the time.

Background info on Dr. Morita

Dr. Morita was established in Taiwan, where the Morita Department Store was opened in 1935. Morita Department Store is a wholesale and retail company specialized in household products and skin care products.

In 2000, after years of researches and development, Dr. Morita set up a research centre in Japan with the help of Japanese technology.

Facial mask products were developed and sold.

The brand is very popular, and Dr. Morita’s products are commonly seen in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore.

What are Hyaluronic Acids? What does it do?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the human body. It is found in the highest concentrations in fluids in the eyes and joints. Our body constantly fights to replenish the Hyaluronic acid in our body.

As we age, our skin cells slowly start to lose its ability to hold and retain water. Hyaluronic Acid helps us with that by drawing moisture from the air and binding it to your skin. It will plump up your skin, therefore minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The box I have is the international version, which consist of 5 pieces of mask sheets.

First impression upon opening a sachet, the packet contains a lot of essence on the sheet. The mask was very fitting and sits perfectly on my face (I have tried masks in the past where they are either too tiny or too big, eg. mask sheet overlapping the face.)

The recommended time to leave this on is 10-15 mins. I have left it on a couple more minutes to allow my face to absorb the essence longer. After taking the sheet off, I gently patted my face to allow the skin to absorb the essence.

I have very sensitive skin and normally need to use hypoallergenic makeups, so I am often reluctant to try new beauty or skin care products. A few years ago I have tried a Korean mask that was near expiry date and the next day my face, eye lid was swollen – I had to go see my GP to for prescribed medicine. Lesson learnt! Do not use products near expiry date and always do a skin patch test. Since then I have switched to water sleeping mask and had not experienced any problem.

Each mask weighs 28g (as indicated on the packet), testing them on scale showed 34g.

If you would like to do a patch test for any allergies, the instructions on the box recommend to test on the inside of the arm for 10 minutes. If you have no signs of allergy by the next day, you may proceed to use the mask.

I have found these masks very hydrating and soothing, the full amount on each sheet is more than enough for the face. As I did not want to waste the remaining essence on the sheet, I have applied the used sheet on each of my hand for 5 mins.. and also patted some around my neck.. making every penny worth!
